These are a Few of My Favorite Things

OklahomaChildphotography

Hello Dears!

Recently my husband and I were talking about how our hobbies and "me time" have really taken a backseat since Jax was born. It got me thinking of what some of my hobbies are, and my top three were baking, reading, and (gasp) photography.

BUT THAT'S MY JOB! Saying your job is also your hobby is lame, right?

But long before I started my business (way way back), I loved photography and always had a camera with me. But I've found that the more I'm working, the less I'm photographing just for fun. So when my usual wheat field down the road from our house magically sprouted a bajillion beautiful wildflowers this summer, I HAD to shoot there. Which led to me packing up the family on a whim after dinner because it was cloudy and beautiful and you never know when the field will be mowed down! My husband was thrilled, obvs.

Alas, with the clouds came lightning, so I had exactly three minutes to shoot once we got there! Combine that with an active two year old and...well....I didn't have a lot to choose from, to say the least! But I love the outcome and I'm glad I took the time to do a shoot just for me! (Even if it was less than five minutes!)

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day ·Baby Jax·

Hello dears!

It's January, which means I have extra down time for baby Jax snuggles, baking, playing outside, and most importantly...time to work on my own family's photos!

Little man and I snuck in some outdoor time on this cloudy morning, and I couldn't help but swoon at all the sweet smiles he was giving me.  These aren't anything fancy, friends.  There's breakfast leftovers still clinging to his chapped cheeks and slobbers on his jacket.  He's got a hole in his britches and mud on his shoes.  And I just needed to keep this memory forever, because I love him so.

Little Miss Lily ·6 Month Lifestyle Portraits·

Hello Dears!

I'm so excited to share this session with you! When Jimmy contacted me, he mentioned that he wanted pictures that really captured the natural essence of his family's personality, not the traditional posed portraits. It was also a 6-month milestone for sweet Lily, so the timing couldn't have been more perfect! We decided on a lifestyle session, because those are so great for little ones, and are perfect for getting those real moments.

We took the pictures in Jimmy and Tommy's beautiful home in the historic Lincoln Terrace in Oklahoma City. I was straight gleeful when I saw what a wonderful job Jimmy did when it came to decorating their historic home. He is the owner of the newly opened Interior Gilt on 23rd St, so I'm not the least bit surprised! Their home was so much fun to shoot in because I was able to play around more than usual.

Picking a favorite from this session is nearly impossible, but I do love the photo of everyone walking down the stairs. Sure, it's not the most traditional, and yeah maybe you can't see everyone's faces. But I love the movement and realness that it captures (while showing off that AMAZING staircase!). I also adore the image of Lily's dads dressing her. It made me picture them buttoning her wedding dress someday, and of course I got a little weepy just thinking about it!

So often the small moments can get lost among the big ones. I hope these photos help Jimmy and Tommy hold onto these precious memories as long as possible.
