Baby Guthrie ·OKC Newborn Photography·

Hello Dears!

Cassi and Joe recently welcomed sweet baby Guthrie into the world, and I'm so excited for you to meet him! This family holds a special place in my heart because aside from being good friends of mine, I've also been lucky enough to photograph their engagement, wedding, and now for their newborn session. I've really loved being able to capture each of these different seasons of their lives, especially because  at their home in Mesta Park. Each time, we've recreated the photo of the whole family sitting on the front porch step, which perfectly illustrates the growth of their family!

One major bonus when you photograph friends' babies is that you get extra cuddles without seeming too creepy. I'm seriously always up for baby snuggles.

Lucky little Guthrie has an awesome big sister, Josi, whom I've been snapping photos of since she was a waddlin' one-year-old. I'm positive she's up for the big sister gig, I mean just look at that proud big sis smile!

And can we talk for a brief, important moment about Guthrie's nursery?! Okie love + tons of natural light are enough to make me sing. Plus, the name Guthrie pretty much rules, am I right?

Little Miss Lily ·6 Month Lifestyle Portraits·

LGBTQPhotographerBaby.jpg

Hello Dears!

I'm so excited to share this session with you! When Jimmy contacted me, he mentioned that he wanted pictures that really captured the natural essence of his family's personality, not the traditional posed portraits. It was also a 6-month milestone for sweet Lily, so the timing couldn't have been more perfect! We decided on a lifestyle session, because those are so great for little ones, and are perfect for getting those real moments.

We took the pictures in Jimmy and Tommy's beautiful home in the historic Lincoln Terrace in Oklahoma City. I was straight gleeful when I saw what a wonderful job Jimmy did when it came to decorating their historic home. He is the owner of the newly opened Interior Gilt on 23rd St, so I'm not the least bit surprised! Their home was so much fun to shoot in because I was able to play around more than usual.

Picking a favorite from this session is nearly impossible, but I do love the photo of everyone walking down the stairs. Sure, it's not the most traditional, and yeah maybe you can't see everyone's faces. But I love the movement and realness that it captures (while showing off that AMAZING staircase!). I also adore the image of Lily's dads dressing her. It made me picture them buttoning her wedding dress someday, and of course I got a little weepy just thinking about it!

So often the small moments can get lost among the big ones. I hope these photos help Jimmy and Tommy hold onto these precious memories as long as possible.

What to Wear (Or Not Wear!) ·How to Look Your Very Best for Family Photos·

OKCFamilyPhotographyOutfits.jpg

Hello Dears!

When it comes to family photos, figuring out what to wear can feel a lot like rocket science. Luckily, I'm here to help you breathe! Here are some tips that will make your family photos as beautiful as can be while still allowing your personal style to shine through.

Coordinate, but don't match.

We've all seen the families dressed in khakis and white button ups, and we're trying to stop seeing them. Make sure the colors you choose complement each other, but avoid dressing everybody in the exact same thing.

Avoid wearing all white/black.

Choosing colors gives your photos dimension, and makes the pictures warmer.

 Use patterns sparingly.

Patterns are great in moderation, but having everyone wear a pattern can be overwhelming. Try putting one or two family members in patterns, and then putting the rest of the family in a color that coordinates with the pattern.

Say YES to layers, textures, and accessories.

Adding a few accessories can really pull a look together. Don't be afraid to add some scarves, vests, sweaters, or jewelry to a few members of the fam!

Say NO to logos and characters.

Keep it simple. Sure, your kiddo might be completely obsessed with all things Elsa and Anna, but logos and characters are distracting in portraits.  Maybe opt instead to include some of that color scheme in their outfit, as a compromise!

Be comfy!

Wear something that makes you comfortable!  If you can't comfortably sit and move around in your outfit, it might not be the best for family photos.  If you find yourself tugging here and there to adjust your shirt or dress, try going with something else that fits the way you want it!  Also, be sure that your outfit highlights your best side, and covers up anything you are less than crazy about.  Love your arms?  Go sleeveless!  Hate your thighs?  Avoid short shorts and skirts!  If you don't feel your very best in what you're wearing, it will surely show in your photos.

Do a wrinkle check.

If you think the material might be a little wrinkly, it will be a whole lotta wrinkly when it's time for photos. Save yourself the struggle by picking a fabric that's relatively wrinkle resistant.

Keep your home in mind.

Consider your home decor when choosing colors - you'll be hanging these photos on your wall, so it doesn't hurt to compliment your home decor. There's a good chance your home decor could give you a clue to your personal style as well.
