These are a Few of My Favorite Things

OklahomaChildphotography

Hello Dears!

Recently my husband and I were talking about how our hobbies and "me time" have really taken a backseat since Jax was born. It got me thinking of what some of my hobbies are, and my top three were baking, reading, and (gasp) photography.

BUT THAT'S MY JOB! Saying your job is also your hobby is lame, right?

But long before I started my business (way way back), I loved photography and always had a camera with me. But I've found that the more I'm working, the less I'm photographing just for fun. So when my usual wheat field down the road from our house magically sprouted a bajillion beautiful wildflowers this summer, I HAD to shoot there. Which led to me packing up the family on a whim after dinner because it was cloudy and beautiful and you never know when the field will be mowed down! My husband was thrilled, obvs.

Alas, with the clouds came lightning, so I had exactly three minutes to shoot once we got there! Combine that with an active two year old and...well....I didn't have a lot to choose from, to say the least! But I love the outcome and I'm glad I took the time to do a shoot just for me! (Even if it was less than five minutes!)

Bernie-Sanders-OKC-Rally-Super-Tuesday

Hello dears!

When I found out Bernie Sanders was coming to Oklahoma City, I started *gently* harassing my Bernie-minded friends for information on photographing the event.  Sunday morning at about 2:30am I got an email saying my press pass for Bernie's OKC rally was approved, and I basically couldn't sleep after that.  While it might not be a big deal to some (basically anyone who works for any sort of media outlet can get a press pass), it was a big deal to me!  So Sunday afternoon, I got to hang out with "the press" and do the freelance photojournalist thing, which was a fun departure from what I usually do.

Horse Thief's cover of Woody Guthrie was perfection, and the Black Bird Dance Troupe put Wayne Coyne's weird "introduction" to shame.  However, the real star was obviously Bernie, who inspired some of the loudest cheers I've ever heard.

While chasing campaigns all over the country isn't necessarily for me, I do love the work I get to do with local candidates.  And heck, if I get the chance to photograph Bernie Sanders up close and personal, you bet your sweet cheeks I'm going to take it.

Introducing...

Hello dears!

As some of you may have noticed, there's been a new face around Oh My Dear lately.  I'm so excited to introduce you all to Bekah, my new office manager!

Bekah started out as Jackson's babysitter, but when we put him in school two days a week, I knew that would be the perfect opportunity to bring her onto the team.  If you've already chatted with her via email, or if you've seen her at a session, you'll know she's just about as friendly and genuine as they come!

I've asked her to put together a quick hello so that she can properly introduce herself, so without further ado, here's Bekah!

Hi, sweet friends! I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of Oh My Dear Photography. I've envied Courtney's work from afar ever since I started keeping sweet baby Jax, so things couldn't be any better on my end! A little about myself:  I'm originally from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (the Tulsa area), but I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. I'm studying online journalism with a minor in women's and gender studies. So far I love what I'm learning! I'm a writer at heart, and you can read some of my writing on my blog. I have a deep love for my rescue pup, Toby! I also love all things TV (The Office, Parks and Rec, Modern Family, +more) and theatre. Oh, and I'm a sucker for Chinese food, books, and board games. Plus I love babies of all ages.

I can't wait to work with you!
